A display rule on its own does nothing: it only becomes meaningful when linked to one or more elements. This link determines which element is or isn’t visible on the pages that match the rule’s pattern.
A single rule can be linked to multiple elements at the same time, which means you can reuse the same targeting logic for different visuals or content within the same campaign, without having to rebuild the rule each time.
The “Linked Elements” column in the Display Rules overview shows, for each rule, how many elements are currently linked to it. This is a useful checkpoint: a rule with zero linked elements currently has no effect on what visitors see, even though it does exist in the system.
When managing elements within the Elements module, you can also navigate back to the linked rule directly from the element itself, which makes it easier to overview the entire targeting chain from rule to element.
