Each position has a status that determines whether it is operational: Active or Inactive.
An active position can effectively display campaigns and elements to visitors, while an inactive position remains technically present in the system but no longer delivers content, even if campaigns are linked to it.
This distinction is useful when a position is temporarily out of service—for example, during a page redesign—without having to delete the position’s entire configuration, including its linked rules and fallback settings.
The overview of Positions displays the status of each position in a clearly colored label, so you can see at a glance which positions are currently delivering content. When you temporarily deactivate a position, all underlying links to domains, zones, and fallback elements are preserved, allowing you to reactivate the position at any time without having to rebuild the configuration.
